Ethical Birding and Etiquette Guidelines
At Birding Sydney and Beyond, we prioritize respectful and responsible birdwatching to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for everyone—while protecting the wildlife and their habitats.

General Etiquette
-
Keep phones on silent mode to avoid disturbing birds or fellow participants.
-
Minimize talking or loud conversation while birding—listen closely to nature and help the group hear the birds.
-
Be mindful of your surroundings: share space so everyone gets a good view of the birds and check where you're standing to avoid hazards (e.g., ant nests or cliffs).

Respect for Wildlife
-
Avoid walking ahead of the guide unless previously discussed.
-
Do not approach nests, birds feeding, or birds caring for young.
-
Refrain from flushing birds or disturbing them for a closer view or photograph. Patience often rewards us with the best sightings.
-
Minimize flash photography and never handle or attempt to catch any wildlife.
-
Playback is not permitted on our tours, except in rare cases for confirming a significant sighting (e.g., a rarity or vagrant).

Safety and Conservation
-
Stay on designated trails in National Parks and Reserves to protect delicate ecosystems.
-
Smoking is prohibited within NSW National Parks and among our tour groups.
-
Follow all park signs and directions from NPWS Park Rangers and staff.
-
Avoid picking flowers, sampling bush tucker, or collecting natural items like feathers in National Parks.
-
If we encounter snakes or other wildlife, give them space and follow the guide’s instructions.

Vehicle Etiquette
-
If birding from a vehicle, exit quietly and avoid slamming car doors to reduce disturbance to nearby birds.

We encourage everyone to embrace a spirit of patience and curiosity, respecting both the environment and each other, for a memorable birding adventure. Thank you for helping us protect the natural beauty of Sydney and beyond!
